First product is an AI-enabled smart camera with end-to-end analysis and support to help pathologists optimize their workflow
Singularity.ai, a new company delivering integrated workflow solutions for physicians, today announced the release of its first product, the EmPathSmart Camera™, an AI-enabled box-top for a microscope to provide end-to-end support to aid pathologists with their most time-consuming tasks, such as cell counting and grading. Unlike whole slide digital pathology approaches, there is no disruption of the proven processes that pathologists rely on nor expensive investment in new equipment. Emphasizing the connectivity and interoperability, EmPath features a high-resolution smart camera that plugs into the pathologist’s existing microscopes. EmPath communicates automatically with cloud-based software to provide simultaneous AI-powered data analysis, as well as full case management and reporting tools. EmPath will debut during the 109th Annual US CAP meeting, February 29-March 5, 2020 in Los Angeles, and will begin shipping in March 2020.
“A continued criticism of the field of medicine is the resistance to adopt new technology — but this is largely because new tools are designed to replace components of the workflow, sometimes even the physician, instead of optimizing it,” said Hui Li, chief executive officer of Singularity.ai. “We recognize that for most pathologists, the microscope still remains the core instrument for their daily routine, so we spent years refining this solution, so pathologists can benefit from state-of-art technologies at their own pace and comfort, here and now.”
Singularity.ai addresses the needs of higher efficiency and improved cost-effectiveness by introducing innovative technologies compatible with the physician’s workflow, keeping them at the center of healthcare. Based in Silicon Valley with the backing of well-known technology investors including Oriza Ventures, Joyance Partners, L.P. & Wisemont Capital, Singularity.ai was founded with the mission to deliver innovative solutions that allow physicians to maintain control while advancing patient care.
“In Silicon Valley, we see countless companies trying to apply new technologies, such as artificial intelligence, to solve human health problems, but so many are not practical in how they deliver these solutions,” said John Yu, founding partner of Oriza Ventures. “By focusing on the end-user first, and understanding their true needs, Singularity.ai has developed product lines that can make a real and immediate difference, which is essential in commercializing new MedTech innovations.”
“Every new technology and tool claim to help with higher efficiency and better outcomes, but they all lack in one area or another — either it is too expensive, has too much of a learning curve, or require change in workflow– most of which would attempt to replace critical aspects of my job that still require a human touch,” said Derek K. Marsee, M.D., Ph.D., a practicing pathologist and President of the California Society of Pathologists. “But a microscope-centered solution makes it easier for pathologists to adopt into the daily routine to increase speed and efficiency without giving up control.”
Singularity.ai is debuting EmPath at USCAP 2020, being held February 29-March 5 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The company booth location is #527. Images and video with more details on Singularity.ai and EmPath are available on the company’s website.
